Our River, The Kakweikan

Guests who select a 4 Day or 5 Day trip have one day exploring this magnificent river. In the later summer and autumn it teems with spawning salmon which attract the eagles, black and grizzly bears. You travel via ATV to the best viewing areas - a really memorable day.

A Typical River Day...

Starts before dawn with breakfast and coffee for an eye opener. You then catch the first light bite (best time ocean fishing). Around 7:30 you are boated to a dock at the mouth of the river, met by our guide -Trapper Rick- who drives you to his riverside cabin. From there you are taken up to 8 pools to try your luck using light casting gear. Later in the afternoon, after a delicious picnic lunch, it's back to the lodge for dinner and some more ocean fishing in the evening

Grizzly Bear Lodge And Safari 2010 News Report: Our river valley grizzly bear count of individual bears remained in the high 40's this past season. On one trip we saw 24 different bears although our average was closer to 7 or 8 per trip. The Orcas were a week late but then were often spectacular as were the humpback and dolphins. We have the photos to show you. We're really looking forward to 2010 - to see more grizzlies as they build up for the winter fishing for salmon on our wild river and to see lots of whales again too. Our whales are the healthiest in the western Pacific.
